Making the Rounds
- TikTok’s revenue projected to triple from $4B to $12B in 2022. That topline number would make it bigger than Snap and Twitter put together. And despite having a smaller user base (1B) than both Facebook (2.9B) and Instagram (2B), the average TikTok user spends more time on the app per month than the two Meta apps combined.
- Meta releases three open source audio models in their quest to make the metaverse sound real. Spatial audio makes sounds change based on where you are and what direction you’re facing – a key factor in bringing authenticity to the sounds of the metaverse.
- House subcommittee votes to move opt-in privacy bill forward. The Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce voted unanimously to advance a bill that would require online advertising companies to get users to opt-in before being able to collect data on them.

Working For Yourself
How to Avoid Information Overwhelm
Living in the Information Age has its pros and cons.
On the one hand, you can teach yourself the basics of just about any skill for free online.
But on the other hand…
This embarrassment of riches creates a paradox of choice.
Who do you learn from? Who do you ignore?
It’s no easy task.
That’s why the secret to avoiding information overwhelm is…
Choose 1-2 experts to learn from and ignore everyone else.
– Consume everything they put out
– Implement their strategies as best you can
– Find out what works and what doesn’t before moving on
Learning a high-income skill like copywriting, sales, or paid ads can feel like drinking from a firehose.
You need to control the flow of information you’re taking in.
Otherwise your head will explode.
And the only way to do that effectively is to narrow your focus.
Bottom line: don’t get high on more than one guru’s supply.
The lessons you’ll learn from executing on ONE person’s strategies will trump it every time.
From The Copywriting Gig
Save the Five Dollar Words For Your Memoirs
Writing copy isn’t like writing essays in college. You don’t get bonus points for using big words.
In fact, it’s the opposite — the more five dollar words you use, the fewer sales you’ll make.
Why?
It’s not because everyone reading your copy is dumb.
It’s because simple words get read faster.
And the easier it is for people to grasp what you’re trying to say, the more people you’ll get to take action.
So aim for short, punchy words with 2-3 syllables. And try to avoid anything with 5 or more.
Also, ask yourself “do most people actually know this word and what it means?” before you use it.
Run your copy through a tool like Hemingway to see how you’re doing.
If you can spit out sales copy at a 5th-grade reading level…
You’ll be one step closer to writing winning pieces that make your client’s cash register ring off the hook.
