Making the Rounds

  • Parler says it’s being bought by Kanye West. If you get restricted on Twitter and Instagram, why try to get back on when you can just buy another platform instead? Parler announced yesterday that it had entered into a purchase agreement with Ye without disclosing terms of the deal. Something tells us the multiple will be slightly less than the eye-popping 44X EBITDA that Elon Musk is set to (over)pay for Twitter.
  • Flipboard lays off 21% of its workforce amid slowdown in online advertising. The online content aggregation site is clearly struggling as Google, Apple, and Meta have since launched their own news aggregators and competition for ad dollars has gotten stiffer.
  • New ad-supported Netflix tier will cost $6.99 and launch on Nov 3. “Basic with ads” will cost $1 less than Disney’s upcoming ad-supported tier and will include an average 4-5 minutes of commercials per hour.

Working With Clients

About The Base Rate On That Upwork Job

If you’re a new freelancer applying to jobs on Upwork…

It can be easy to get intimidated.

So here’s a tip that’ll help you land more gigs:

The hourly rate or fixed price portion of the job is virtually meaningless.

In our experience, it has almost no relation to what a client looking for OR is willing to pay for a specific job.

Clients will often throw up an arbitrary number just to see what comes in…

Not realizing how it influences the proposal they attract.

And even if the rate they post is rooted in reality…

That doesn’t mean they won’t pay more to get the right freelancer.

So the next time you find a job you think you’d be good for…

Ignore the rate.

Don’t be afraid to put in a proposal with a quote way above or below what they posted.

The results may surprise you.

Taking notes on a Zoom call can be a major pain.

Listening and typing quickly at the same time is no small feat…

Meanwhile, everyone else is forced to listen in as you hammer away on the keys as fast as you can.

And sure, you can record the call…

But if you’ve got to go back to review something someone said…

You’re often stuck skipping around trying to find the exact moment where it was discussed.

(Or worse, trying to remember what they said if you forgot to record it.)

That’s where Fireflies.AI comes in.

It’s an AI assistant that lets you record, transcribe, and search across all your voice conversations.

Once you sign up for free, all you have to do is invite Fireflies (aka Fred) into your meeting.

Then he takes care of the rest.

After the meeting is finished, you’ll have a searchable transcript so you don’t have to worry about taking notes.
